Fred - gentle soul who stayed sweet through neglect
Fred's story is one of remarkable patience and trust. This beautiful 2-year-old brown semi-longhaired boy came to us via another rescue after spending a week in a lady's garden in Preston, but his matted condition told us he'd been struggling for far longer than that. His long fur was heavily matted under his chin and around his body - the kind of matting that develops over weeks or months of having no one to care for him properly. Yet when we needed to shave away those painful mats, Fred simply sat there and let us help him, his gentle nature shining through despite his discomfort.
What makes Fred's temperament so extraordinary is that neglect hasn't made him wary or defensive. He's very friendly and genuinely loves to be fussed over, seeking out human attention with the enthusiasm of a cat who's never been let down. That he sat so calmly while we removed his mats speaks volumes about his trust in people - he understood we were helping him, even when it must have been uncomfortable. This level of patience and sweetness is rare and precious, especially in a cat who's clearly been through difficult times.
With no history known about Fred's past, we can only piece together his story from what we see now - a loving, affectionate boy who's comfortable with children of all ages, suited to either indoor or outdoor living, and simply wants to be someone's cherished companion. His lap cat nature and love of fuss suggest he'll thrive in any home where he's given the attention and care he's been missing. What Fred needs most is regular grooming to keep his beautiful long coat in good condition, and a family who will never let him become matted and neglected again.
This lovely boy has already shown us his forgiving, gentle heart. Fred deserves a home where his sweet nature will be treasured, where his long coat will be properly maintained, and where he'll finally receive the consistent love and care he so readily gives in return. For a family seeking a friendly, affectionate companion who asks for nothing more than kindness and attention, Fred is waiting to become the treasured family member he was always meant to be.

Our Rehoming Process
Application & Appointment
Step One
Step Two
Home Check
After this, we will arrange an appointment with you to pick up your new friend, as well as the required food and litter which is available to purchase at our on-site shop.
Rehoming
From the initial appointment to collection usually takes between 7-10 days. When you come to collect your new cat(s), you will just need to sign the relevant paperwork, as well as paying the donation fee via our website. Prior to release all cats will have the necessary vaccinations and medical treatments - all signed off by our vet.
Step Three
Rehoming Rules
- We will not rehome an adult cat into a home where there are existing adult cats.
- We won't home single kittens without another cat present. Rehoming a single kitten doesn't meet welfare standards as it will have no social interaction with other cats. This means that if you already have an adult you can have one kitten. If you don't have an adult cat, you can take an established adult cat or two kittens.
- We ensure that no cat or kitten is released to its new home until 48 hours after its vaccination.
- If there are other pets in the household i.e. dogs, we will normally recommend a kitten unless we have an adult cat who is used to living with dogs. Dogs are able to come to the Sanctuary to be introduced to the cat.
- All existing cats in any household must be neutered.
- All cats and kittens that leave Woodlands Animal Sanctuary must leave with the food and litter that they are currently using here, this can be purchased from our onsite shop.
