A kind gentleman discovered this beautiful 7-year-3-month-old black long-haired boy in the early morning of 2nd May 2026, when Dennis broke through his locked, one-way cat flap in desperation - the wrong way - bearing a devastating wound. A collar had become catastrophically stuck around his front leg, cutting deeply into the skin across his chest, underneath his front leg and down toward his sternum. The damage was severe and had clearly been inflicted over a prolonged period, suggesting Dennis had been living as a stray for years, enduring this excruciating pain alone with no one to help him.

The compassionate gentleman immediately took Dennis to a vet in Southport. When Dennis was scanned, no owner was found - and it's suspected he's been living as a stray for at least 5 years or more. This wound, in this location, is notoriously difficult to treat because any movement threatens to rupture healing stitches. Yet Dennis's story has taken an extraordinary turn. Through the admirable teamwork, dedication, and knowledge of our dedicated vet Alison - who came daily to provide meticulous wound care and specialised treatment - and through Ribble Vets, who generously agreed to trial laser treatment three times weekly free of charge, Dennis has achieved something remarkable. In a matter of weeks rather than months or years, his wound is now sporting a very healthy scar that's healing beautifully.

What's truly heartwarming is watching Dennis's transformation beyond his physical healing. When he first arrived, he was very scared and needed careful handling, especially around his vulnerable wound. He retreated into hiding, using only a bespoke box deep inside his pen to escape from the world. But now, Dennis is allowing us to stroke along his back when we give him his medications. He's using both floors of his pen, confidently negotiating the stairs without damaging his healing wound. Most remarkably, he now lies in view when people walk in front of his pen - these are all huge milestones for a cat who's had to fight for his simple existence and survival, enduring excruciating pain for such a prolonged period of time.

Dennis will need a quiet home with no children or other pets - a sanctuary where he can continue his journey toward trusting the world again. He'll need a prolonged settling-in period indoors as he adjusts to permanent domesticity after so long on the streets. But once he's settled and confident, he will genuinely benefit from safe outdoor space. This brave, resilient boy has already proven he can overcome the unthinkable - now he just needs a family patient enough to help him discover that survival can transform into thriving, and that after everything he's endured, a life filled with safety, comfort, and gentle affection truly is possible.
