Rehoming Animals Since 2005

Rehoming a cat can be a rewarding and exciting experience but it is important that you understand the commitment can be anything up to twenty years of your life.

At Woodlands Animal Sanctuary we understand that all our animals’ health and well-being is paramount. We work with Rufford Veterinary Group to ensure that all our cats and kittens receive the highest standards of care and medical treatment possible before being rehomed. This includes:

  • Veterinary Checks
  • Worming Treatment
  • Microchipping
All of our cats and kittens leave Woodlands registered to the Sanctuary to ensure they can be re-united with their family.
  • Tests for Feline Aids and Leukemia where necessary
  • Spayed/Neutered
All cats over 6 months old are spayed/neutered and kittens from 9 weeks to 6 months come with a neutering voucher for Rufford Veterinary Group
  • Vaccinations
All of our cats receive at least their first vaccination before leaving Woodlands. Any cat who has not yet received it, will also leave us with a voucher for Rufford Veterinary Group for their second vaccination. It is of upmost importance that your cat has the same type and brand of vaccine for its second vaccination as the first vaccine. Hence we ask you to return to Rufford Veterinary group to get the second vaccination regardless of which veterinary practice you would normally use.

This care costs over £175 per cat to Woodlands Animal Sanctuary but rehoming a cat from Woodlands means we only ask for a donation of £85 for one and £160 for a pair.

Our Rehoming Process

All of our applications go through the same three-stage process. This helps us to ensure not only the cats safety, but that you and your new cat are the perfect match. Please also pay special attention to our rehoming rules outlined at the bottom of this webpage.

Rehoming Rules

We will not rehome an adult cat into a home where there are existing adult cats.

We ensure that no cat or kitten is released to its new home until 48 hours after its vaccination.

If there are other pets in the household i.e. dogs, we will normally recommend a kitten unless we have an adult cat who is used to living with dogs.  Dogs are able to come to the Sanctuary to be introduced to the cat.

All existing cats in any household must be neutered.

All cats and kittens that leave Woodlands Animal Sanctuary must leave with the food and litter that they are currently using here, this can be purchased from our onsite shop.

The Cats

This gorgeous girl is Sootie, who is approximately 13 years old!

Sootie was originally rehomed from us in 2015, but came back into our care on the 19th February 2020! This was due to no fault of her own, as her previous owner passed away. She has had a health check, is neutered, microchipped and is fully vaccinated.

Sootie is a BIG girl (currently over 6kg), so is currently on weight management food. She is a very affectionate cat who would be an ideal lap cat (once she looses the weight!) She doesn't mind being picked up and handled and would suit any home that could provide the cuddles she needs!
This gorgeous lady is Melody, who is approximately 2 years old!

Melody came into our care on the 28th May at no fault of her own. Melody's old owner was going to put her asleep due to no longer wanting her. Thankfully the vets contacted us and we were able to give her a second chance her.

Melody is a sweet and vocal girl but can be feisty. This means that she would benefit from an experienced owner who has no other pets or young children, and would benefit from living in an area with a minimum amount of cats. She was brought to us at the understanding that she absolutely hates other cats, therefore in a shelter setting has made her agitated. She is however super playful and loves to interact with toys as well as enjoying strokes on her own terms!
We currently have multiple kittens in our care at Woodlands Animal Sanctuary, and due to Covid-19, viewings cannot take place. Therefore we are pleased to introduce our Kitten Match Making Service!

No kitten is created equal, some kittens in our care were born on site and raised in warm environments whilst others were brought after they were found under sheds and other cold places. Therefore some kittens are more timid than others and require a specific home.

With our Kitten Match Making Service, we will be able to pair you with your perfect kitten, all depending on their temperament and behaviour, as well as your current home situation. If you are interested in rehoming a kitten from us, please fill out a form on our Rehoming During Quarantine page.

Please note it may take several days/weeks to get back to you and we will only get in touch if we deem suitable.
This lovely lad is Charlie, who is approximately 4 years old!

Charlie came into our care on the 15th May as he wasn't getting along with the other cats in the house.

Charlie is a reserved cat, who does like the occasional head scratch at first. He would benefit from an understanding owner as he will need time to come out of his shell. When settled, Charlie is a darling cat who loves being brushed and stroked, he also has the cutest meow! He would also benefit having an outdoor space he can explore.
This handsome man is Shale! He is approximately 4 and a half years old!

Shale came to us on the 11th June, he was a very well looked after pet in his old home, however due to moving house they were unable to look after him anymore. Shale came with full health, a microchip, his vaccinations up to date and came neutered.

Shale is a very lovely cat, he loves hiding and getting comfy under cushions in his hide, so will need a very comfortable place to sleep! He loves human attention and loves to be stroked, cuddled and also loves the occasional brush. Shale would be a perfect family cat but would benefit from being the only pet in the house as he hasn't had much experience with dogs etc.
