November 2014, Dolly arrived with her mum. Both were in a poor state – their previous owner simply couldn't manage, and the pair of them were covered in lice. We set about sorting them out straightaway.

Dolly's mum has since passed, but Dolly's thrived here. She's grown into a handsome white and brown donkey – 11 hands high, 178 kilos of personality. Spends her days with our horses, grazing, chewing hay, exploring every corner of the field. You'll often spot her cheeky face poking over her stable door, seeing what's going on.

She's got a bit of attitude, has Dolly. Can be rude when she fancies it, will barge past you if you're in her way. And heaven help you if you try to pick her feet – she's been known to kick out. But generally, she's sweet and loving. Just likes things on her terms.

Dolly's become something of a celebrity round here. That face of hers works wonders on our fundraising materials, and she's one of our most sponsored residents. People seem drawn to her – perhaps because she arrived in such a state and look at her now. Perhaps because she's just got that something about her.

Either way, she's exactly where she needs to be. Safe, healthy, surrounded by friends, and thoroughly in charge.
