About Woodlands Animal Sanctuary

Woodlands Animal Sanctuary is a registered charity (No. 1108626)

Established in 2005, our goal is:

"To relieve the suffering of animals of any species who are in need of care and attention, and in particular to provide or maintain refuge, secure homes, sanctuaries or other facilities for the reception and care of unwanted animals and the treatment of sick or ill-treated animals."

Our objectives include:

  • To rescue unwanted, ill-treated, abandoned or neglected animals.
  • The rehabilitation of these animals.
  • To provide residential care, or wherever possible to foster out these animals into secure, permanent and loving environments.
  • To educate and provide support and advice to the general public in the care of domestic animals.
  • To offer volunteering opportunities to everyone including people with mental health issues and special needs.

Our Achievements:

All of our team members are qualified in animal management or animal care and together dedicate over 500 hours a week.

  • In 2015 we opened our dedicated hedgehog facility making us the only shelter with a dedicated hedgehog unit in Lancashire and Merseyside.
  • We take in a range of species making us the only shelter in West Lancashire that caters for multi-species.
  • All of our staff are qualified in animal management or animal care.
  • We established a strong relationship with Lancashire Badger Group. We are the only shelter setup for the rehabilitation of badgers in Lancashire.
  • We are very please to announce that we now have in place an education programme aimed at schools, clubs and groups in the local areas.
  • We have started working with the local community taking our animals to meet and greet people in care homes, schools and day care centres.
  • We have started to provide more opportunities for volunteers with special needs.
  • We have expanded our outreach work by taking our education bus to a variety of venues.
